Biography:
Co-owner of San Francisco’s noted
dance music concern Loveslap Recordings, he oversees vinyl
and cd production, maintains a diverse and growing stable
of artists, cuts the checks and keeps the peace.
Charles writes, plays, produces, engineers,
and mixes innovative, cutting-edge house music, on his own
and in collaboration with Mauricio Aviles as Movido, with
Marc Alan Gray as Spencer Gray, and with Nick Santillan
as Behind The Groove, and many others. Recently, he produced
exclusive house mixes for R&B chanteuse Goapele's radio
hit "Closer," released on Loveslap.
A diagnosed music freakss, Charles has
been playing and studying piano since age 7. He remembers
listening (repeatedly) to New Order, Oscar Peterson, Chick
Corea, and Rachmaninov, as a kid in the 80’s.
He's currently at work completing several
solo projects in addition to two full length LP's including
a down tempo LP with Gregory del Piero. And he threatens
to keep pushing outward on the boundaries of House: "Lately
I've been messing with jazzier structures and general weirdness,
always keeping both eyes on the dancefloor."
Charles still likes to see people dance:
He's been to New York, Chicago, Mexico, London and Texas
plying his DJ skills and hosts the Loveslap monthly at Pink
in San Francisco. Just keeping busy.
