Biography:
Ricardo Torres was born in Valdivia, Chile
but grew up in the winter wonderland that is Montreal, Canada.
He first encountered DJ turntables at his college radio
station back in 1986 and a year later, after many hours
spend practicing the art of DJ'ing, he gained a residency
at a popular Montreal alternative club called The Thunderdome.
It is at this club that Ricardo had his first taste of ³House².
The DJ that was playing before him was finishing his set
with a track that he just gotten on a trip to Chicago.
That track was "House Nation" from the House Master
Boyz. Acid house was arriving in Montreal and The Thunderdome
was the place to hear it. When Ricardo heard the first few
bars of this classic he was instantly hooked and in no time
replaced his Smiths and Killing Joke vinyl to the names
of artists like Ralphie Rosarion and Marshall Jefferson.
In 1989 he left DJing behind to concentrate in his studies
that led him into a career as a Visual Effects Artist. The
music was laying dormant in him but Ricardo was still able
to express his creativity by "mixing" visuals.
In 1995 his career led him to move to Los Angeles, California
which he made his home. The soulful West Coast house vive
woke up the DJ in him again and he acquired a set of decks,
a mixer, and his first vinyl in years. Since then, Ricardo's
original love for music has taken him all over North America
and in Europe to spread the soulful sound that he now plays.
The Thunderdome years are long gone and Ricardo's music,
like him, has mature. As he puts it, "I now play dance
music for adults."
